A6 Highway
Heilbronn, Germany
Since 2016, we have been responsible for a section of the A6 federal highway between the Wiesloch/Rauenberg junction and the Weinsberg interchange in Baden-Württemberg as part of a PPP project. Together with partners, HOCHTIEF widened the 25.5-kilometer stretch to six lanes while traffic continued to flow and renewed the 1.3-kilometer Neckar Valley crossing between Heilbronn/Untereisesheim and Neckarsulm. The ViA6West project company also built 36 new bridges, constructed 13 kilometers of new noise barriers and expanded four rest areas. ViA6West will keep the highway in a high quality condition that fully meets the requirements of traffic over the entire project duration of 30 years. The operation and maintenance teams are working closely together to optimize the availability of the A6 for users.
A particular focus is placed on sustainable aspects. Various compensatory and replacement measures were implemented to compensate for the built-up areas. ViA6West paid particular attention to the environment during all work and took extensive species protection measures, for example for the dormouse. Comprehensive environmental construction supervision accompanied the water protection and building materials were recycled. The project has been measuring its CO2 footprint for many years and has been awarded the DGNB's gold sustainability certificate.
